  • The Declaration of Independence

    In June of 1776, the Continental Congress appointed a committee of five persons to draft a statement that would explain to the British and everyone else WHY the Americans wanted and deserved their independence. In a meeting of these proposed writers it was decided that Thomas Jefferson was to write the initial draft and then it would be reviewed and discussed by the remaining members of the committee. Seventeen days later Jefferson returned with his draft of the document.

    Upon review of this committee, a few suggestions were voiced and a few changes were made. Then the document went before the Continental Congress on July 2, 1776. The Continental Congress reviewed and discussed the document for more than a day – declared it the “Declaration of Independence” and when it was all said and done – the bells of Philadelphia were all rung at once and the people knew that Independence had been declared.

    The people were extremely happy yet also scared – scared of what this new and brave world would offer. No longer were they to be “watched over” by this all powerful government – no, they were now on their own. And so the American “spirit” was born.

    Five days later all of the thirteen colonies approved the Declaration of Independence and America – the United States of America was born. But the British didn’t take this laying down and there was a war. The odds were against the Americans but with George Washington at the helm, the fact that the British were fighting far from home and a little luck the British surrendered through Lord Cornwallis at Yorktown, VA 1781. British troops returned home and the British Parliament then voted to cease hostilities with America.

    The Treaty of Paris was then signed in 1783in which Britain finally recognized the independent United States of America.

    Do we need a NEW Declaration of Independence today? Is it really that crazy an idea? Look what is happening in our government. The reason for the original document was the unrest and dissatisfaction the people had with the ruling government – it is happening AGAIN today except in a worse way. The corruption, lying, stealing and selfish policy making is driving this great country’s economy down the drain. We must stand together, rise up and make our voice heard.

    Please join me and make your voice heard today! What are you waiting for? What more does the government have to do to us to make you act?

    In todays times the government wants to suck the spirit right out of every American and revert the relationship back to a government that controls and dominates its people. Are you going to let this happen? Are We? It is up to us as a people – we have a RESPONSIBILITY to act if our elected leaders are not acting in the country’s best interest.

    Read these words from the first paragraph of the Declaration of Independence. It is broken down into each separate thought.

    When in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands that have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation”

    Wow. Couldn’t have put it better myself. Now the second classic paragraph.

    “We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights , that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness”.

     

    Very simply the writers set forth a document that stated the rights claimed by the colonists. it didn’t matter who read this – all would agree that these are rights that should be afforded to all people. Therefore the basis for the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution is very clear – that certain individual rights are inalienable, natural, come from God and cannot under any circumstances be granted or taken away by the government. The government does not own these rights – these are rights that you come with when you are born – if, you are born in or become a legal resident of the United States.

Why have we the people allowed our government to grow to an enormous size to where it’s completely out of control and bankrupt. The U.S. Government has grown 25% in the past year! When and where do we draw the line? At what point do the people respond? That’s what they in power are doing – they keep pushing the envelope – they keep testing the people – but right now no one is interested enough to stand up and shout back. There are a few who are but we need the people – We the People to stand together in masses and make our voices heard today.

    Rise up and let us declare our independence from our governments desire to throw this country into outright Socialism. Believe in the free market and capitalism. We must not be taken advantage of anymore!
