Capitalism, Socialism, Fascism or Communism - You Tell Me Where Our Country Is At
May 25th, 2009 | Posted in Voice of the PeoplePeople love to chatter back and forth about where this country is headed - about what kind of government Obama is changing our government into. People wonder if we are doing the right thing with our monetary policies or whether we are headed towards Socialism or Communism - or where ever you think this great country may be heading. Everyone has their opinion.
So now it is time for YOU too make your own opinion. You can read the actual definitions of these different forms of society and make your own educated guess as to where we are as a country - right now - and maybe more important were we are headed. Let us begin.
These are the official Merriam-Webster Dictionary definitions of each of these philosophies.
- Capitalism - An economic system characterized by private or corporate ownership of capital goods, by investments that are determined by private decision, and by prices, production and the distribution of goods that are determined mainly by competition in a free market. - Say that out loud - it Just sounds so free and empowering. Like it just bursts with “America!”
- Socialism - Any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods. ** A system of society or group living in which there is no private property. ** A system or condition of society in which the means of production are owned and controlled by the state. ** A stage of society in Marxist theory transitional between Capitalism and Communism and distinguished by the unequal distribution of goods and pay according to work done. - Reading that one out loud gives the feeling of rigidity and restraint - a greyness and dullness.
- Fascism - From the Italian Fascismo, from Fascio - meaning bundle, fasces or group. From Latin Fascis - bundle. - A political philosophy, movement or regime that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation , and forcible suppression of opposition. * A tendency towards or actual exercise of strong autocratic or dictatorial control. - Wow! Read that one and it sounds very militaristic in nature - a lot of control, a lot of poor and very few elite rich - a very futuristic and scary image.
- Statism - Concentration of economic controls and planning in the hands of a highly centralized government often extending to government ownership of industry. - This one sounds eerily close….
- Communism - A theory advocating elimination of private property. * A system in which goods are owned in common and are available to all as needed. * A doctrine based on revolutionary Marxian socialism and Marxism-Leninism that was the official ideology of the Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics. * A totalitarian system of government in which a single authoritarian party controls state-owned means of production. * A final stage of society in Marxist theory in which the state has withered away and economic goods are distributed equitably. - This one is straight out of Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged - no one could have written it better. It is a scary scenario with the mindless masses pushing out the actual few who can produce and think.
So which do you think best represents where we are at right now? I wouldn’t think there are too many that think this country is entrenched in Capitalism or that Obama is heading us right up the glorious road towards a gold paved Capitalistic society!
I think if you are objective and examine these definitions it is pretty easy to determine which apply to Obama’s policies and which apply to where our government is right now. Notice that Capitalism as so easy to read and filled with words of openness and hope and freedom and opportunity - those words immediately vanished from the definitions of all the other philosophies.
It is clear that if you want a life of happiness, freedom and prosperity - that Capitalism is the one and only way to go - if you like “things” and opportunities, and limitless possibilities then Capitalism is the game for you.
IF however you want to put some restraints on this freedom, some limits on this earning possibility - and some heavy redistribution of my income and yours to those that “just don’t try” then you will like these other ways of society - just don’t try to better yourself - the government will be against it the whole way.
If you are for Capitalism and the Constitution - for freedom and prosperity - for letting businesses fail when they no longer make a profit - for entrepreneurs guiding this great country with Capitalistic innovation - if you are for the true America - then please make your voice heard today - and let us stamp out any threat of Socialism, Fascism or Communism - but we must do it quick as I can smell these three killers of society lurking right around the corner ready to be unleashed by our radical Congress and new President. Make your voice heard today.
